FINDING BEAUTY AND STILLNESS IN CHAOS

I am inspired by the concept of beauty and stillness in a world of chaos. I strive to create images which portray the theatre of life. My work includes the spectator in a moment of timelessness where there is a cessation of fleeting desires and instant gratification. It is about taking off our masks and partaking in the essence of an unique interaction with the artist. After studying for a Masters of Art at Wits I went to the Academy of Brera, in Milan, Italy. Here we copied Old Masters and learned the layering of pigment which was part of an earlier age. Some of us were allowed to work on the tablecloth of Leonardo's Last Supper under the watchful eyes of the restoration team. I was also present at the discovery of the portraits of the Brancacci family hidden under the said chapel's altarpiece in Florence. This, in addition to my Italian heritage, has influenced my work into a type of Modern Classicism
