Chris Watcham

Chris paints in oil - scenes of landscape and wildlife, capturing moments in time with sunsets and scenes with animals which is why he set his website up as He paints in washes of colour, building up the final colour to give life and vibrancy to his paintings and achieving ‘colour perspective’, which gives that depth and distance to his scenes. All scenes are chosen from his travels all over South Africa and Southern Africa, all the way to Tanzania where he had his most recent photographic safari in June 2016. Chris has exhibited successfully at private exhibitions, Art in the Park (PMB), where a group of 50 artists countrywide were selected to exhibit once a year, Artists under the Sun (Zoo Lake,) INNIBOS (Nelspruit), Norscott Manor, Jan Smuts House, Boardwalk (PTA East) and other venues. He has also sold to people from UK, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, USA and India. With his extensive travels and adventures all over the world, Chris finds South Africa and it's neighbouring countries to be an artist’s paradise. He has painted scenes from the Wild Coast, Natal Drakensberg, Magaliesberg, Pilanesberg, Kruger Park, and his favourite Wilderness of the Kalahari in Botswana, where he farmed until recently and where his family still live and farm, including in Namibia. Chris had his work published in The Collector’s Guide for Art and Artists in South Africa in October 2014, and now on their website. Chris also showcases his work on the S.A Artists website and sells work from his own website, “The strongest influence in my life was growing up in, and getting to know, the untouched Wilderness of the Kalahari in Botswana in the early 1950’s. Hunting with Bushman as a small boy and farming as a young man, taught me a respect and love for that great Wilderness. A Wilderness never to be seen again on the same scale as it was in the 1950’s - untouched and vast. I thank our Maker for that privilege of seeing it as it was then, and now for the opportunity to express that love in my artwork.”
